In addition to the rates Twilio charges to send messages, individual US and international carriers also charge for SMS or MMS messages that are sent. Carriers are companies that run networks to send text messages or place phone calls. Some popular carriers are ATT, Verizon, Sprint, and T-Mobile, among others.
The price to send a mobile message may vary based on the carrier to which the mobile message is being sent. These can change frequently, however, they are the same no matter what toolset you use. This means the carrier fees are the same for Mobile Commons, Action Network, Twilio, etc. They can range anywhere from $0 - $0.0075 depending on the carrier, the type of message you send (SMS or MMS), or number type (shortcode or toll-free). These rates are set by the carriers and cannot be altered or lowered by Action Network.
As a non-profit, Action Network asks that folks pay for their usage of our system, so we add a 7.7% charge to the carrier fees to cover processing and administrative fees for this feature.
