We understand that you may not want to (and probably shouldn't) host in-person events in the coming weeks due to the Coronavirus. You can create events that don't have a physical location and even edit events to remove a physical location.
Creating an event without a physical location
Go to the Actions tab in the Start Organizing menu and click Events. From there, that will bring you to a page to create the event. Below the title, you'll see a checkbox that says 'This event has no physical location'. Check off that box, and you won't be required to input street address information.
Editing an event to remove a physical location
Go to your action manage page, and click 'edit event' in the top left. Below the title, you'll see a checkbox that says 'This event has no physical location'. Check off that box, and your street address information will be deleted.
Note that your RSVPs will NOT be notified that the event location has changed. Make sure to send them an email with the conference call details! Here's more on sending your RSVPs an email or posting on the discussion board. For conference calls, we like Zoom, Google Hangouts, and Free Conference Call.
Help! I don't see the checkbox to remove a physical location
If your event is part of an event campaign, then you are required to have a physical location. But you can use a workaround. For the location name, put in the conference call details, and for the address information, put '123 Main Street' for the street address. Put in the CORRECT local information for city, state, and zip code. This will place your event in the general area of your group. Unfortunately it's not possible to edit where the pin ends up on the map, but putting in the correct city, state, and zip code should ensure people can find it when they search for an event near them.
Note that your RSVPs will be notified of the location change, so make sure to include a link to the conference call somewhere! You can also send your RSVPs an email or post on the discussion board to notify participants. The email notification will look something like this:
