If you have the correct permissions, you can edit your group's settings in the Settings tab.
General Settings
In this tab, you can manage general settings across the group. You can opt your group into Anonymized Target Booster. Once you are opted in, you have the option to expand your click/open targeting universe to include anyone who’s clicked or opened an email from any group opted into Target Booster. You will not be able to view any email addresses as the data will be completely anonymous, but you will be able to send to them as long as they are already subscribed to your list. You can also opt out of this, but you will not be able to opt back in. For more information on how this works and how we protect activists' privacy, click here.
You can allow and accept applications from users to become organizers. By default, applications are off. Turning on applications means users can apply to join. Keeping it off means you must invite users directly for them to join your group as an organizer or administrator.
You can choose whether your group will automatically merge activists on the list who request to change their email to another activist in our system. By default, we'll send all administrators with the "Activists" permission a notification so they can perform the merge manually, allowing you to keep the data from each activist you want. If you turn on this setting, these activists will be merged automatically, which means no notifications will be sent.
You can set your group up to notify people when the group (or child groups, if it is in a network) sends an email. Check the box to enable, then enter in one or more email addresses separated by commas to set up notifications, then save. Those people will be notified when emails are sent with the email name, subject line, send size, and links to view the stats, content, and targeting of that email.
You can also enable or disable the discussion board tab. Uncheck or check the 'enable group discussion board' option to turn it off on or on. Disabling it will remove the discussion tab from your list of tabs on the group manage page.
Below this section, you can require 2-factor authentication for all group administrators and organizers. From the dropdown, select whether you want to disable or enable it, and what kind of authentication is required. You can choose between any factor, only apps and hardware keys, or only hardware keys. After enabling it, when an administrator tries to access any of the group's resources (such as actions, emails, or ladders) they will be required to set up 2-factor authentication. If you're in a network, you can also enable it for all administrators in your child groups.
Next, you can set a default targeting radius unit that will apply when targeting emails, messages, and reports across the platform. You can choose miles or kilometers.
After this, you can set the group's default country and language. The default country controls what country activists are placed in via uploads if one isn't explicitly set. When someone is taking action, we attempt to locate the country based on IP address. If we cannot, then they will be placed in your default country.
The default language is added to your activists via uploads if one isn't explicitly set. It is also the language default when you create a new action (which can be changed when you edit the action).
Action Settings
In this tab, you can edit your group's default action settings. You can disable blank questions in the form builder. This will make any blank questions created for in the form builder an action only field. This data does not appear in the Activist Record. This is useful if you want to prevent ad hoc questions and data from being added to your group.
You can turn on affirmative opt-in settings for your email list, which will require people to select a radio button, indicating whether they want to be subscribed to your email list or not. This only applies to actions where your group is the primary sponsor, not actions where your group is the co-sponsor.
You can set new event discussion boards off by default. If this setting is checked, newly created events sponsored by this group will have their discussion boards off by default.
You can also tick off the checkbox to add data processing text to your actions which goes below the submit button on your forms.
You can add the option to edit the default email auto-response to the action creation workflow, after setting up thank you pages and before publishing. If you're in a parent group in a network, you can turn this on for your group and all child groups. You can always make changes after the action has been published in the Responses tab of the Action Manage page for each individual action.
Below this, you can add a default Twitter handle and Facebook share image. The handle you add here will appear in the sharing language for all actions sponsored by this group. The image you upload will be what we use by default when any action sponsored by your group are shared to Twitter or Facebook.
Email Settings
In this tab, you can edit your group's default email settings. You can set a default from line, reply-to email, and signoff. These defaults will be pre-populated in the autoresponders and emails you create for actions and emails for this group. You can always edit these defaults while creating new actions and emails. The signoff default is available as a clip that you can use in autoresponders and emails if you choose.
You can set default email targeting. Select which queries or reports you'd like to include or exclude from each email your group sends. This targeting will automatically be applied when you're targeting emails in Standard Mode, but they won't be applied to targeting in reports, mobile messages, or when targeting emails in Query Mode. Learn more about queries and reports.
Below this, there is a checkbox to change the default behavior for scheduling emails. When checked, newly created emails have the 'Refresh targeting before sending' box checked. It can be unchecked before scheduling.
At the bottom of the page, there is a section for you to enable Deliverability Issue Notifications. If you enable these, you will receive notifications if your email stats over the last week fall below the thresholds you set. Click here for more info on our recommended thresholds.
Next, you'll be able to include a comma-separated list of administrators who should receive these notifications.
If you're in a network, you'll see a checkbox to include child group's in the weekly evaluation as well.
Mobile Settings
If you have set up your mobile messaging partnership, you will see your phone number here. This is the number you send messages from and what can text in to in order to take action.
You can add additional mobile messaging opt in text here. This is useful if you have a short code and want to create actions which require the opt out to contain links to your privacy policy and terms or service. Whatever you add here is appended to the default opt-in language, "Opt in to mobile messages from [your group name]. Message and data rates apply. Reply STOP to unsubscribe.".
Below this, you can enable carrier look up. If you enable this, we will pull data on what carrier every activist on your list is on. You can then use this to target mobile messages, emails, reports or ladders. There is a cost per number to do this. Learn more about carriers look up here.
You can also set your automatic help and unsubscribe text and create a mobile message template. If your group is using a shared short code, you will be able to see that here. If your group is using custom short links, you can see that short link here. More on custom short links here.
If your group is a child group in a network, by default, mobile subscription status flows up the network. You can turn off the flow of mobile list subscription data to parent groups. This setting is checked by default. This means that if I subscribe to the Dallas group, I will be subscribed to the Texas group. If you turn this setting off, the mobile subscription status data does not flow up. So an activist who subscribes to the Dallas group will not be subscribed to the Texas group.
If you have not set up your mobile messaging partnership yet, you can contact us at join@actionnetwork.org.
You can set default messaging targeting. Select which queries or reports you'd like to include or exclude from each message your group sends. This targeting will automatically be applied when you're targeting messages in Standard Mode, but they won't be applied to targeting in reports, emails, or when targeting emails in Query Mode. Learn more about queries and reports.
At the bottom of this tab there is an option to change the default behavior for scheduling messages. When checked, newly created messages have the 'Refresh targeting before sending' box checked. It can be unchecked before scheduling.
Recurring Donation Settings
In this tab, you can set the group's recurring donation settings.
You can choose whether activists can update donation amounts and next charge dates and cancel their own recurring donations or not. If not, you must enter, in sentence form, instructions for them to be able to cancel, such as "Call us at 1.800.123.4567 to cancel your recurring donation." Activists will see this message instead of a link to cancel their recurring donation in receipts, or a button to do so on the update your card page.
Note: You must give some reasonably easy way for activists to cancel, such as calling or emailing you. You are responsible for chargebacks (at $15 each) if activists get annoyed enough at you to dispute recurring charges on their credit card.
You can also customize the receipt emails that activists receive when their card is charged each time and the notification emails they receive if their card stops working and their recurring donation begins failing, including changing the wrapper, from line, reply-to, subject line, and content. Make sure to include the "{{DonationReceipt}}" clip in these emails, as it will output activist-specific information such as the custom link to update their card or how much they were charged.
